Risk: Medium – High Intruder Resistant Glass.

Maximum Protection Intruder-Resistant Glass has been specially designed and constructed from incredibly robust laminated glass to achieve a maximum level of resistance to physical attack. Tested and rated by accredited laboratories under the Standard AS 3555.1-2003, GuardShield IRG has been proven to out-perform all other products of its type or thickness.

Why is GuardShield IRG so superior?

It is because it sports the latest technology in the use of an ultra-thick polyacrylic interlayer that provides startling performance.
For instance when tested to the AS3555.1 Level 2 Intruder Resistant Standard, GuardShield IRG GS14 panel will resist two men with common hand tools weighing up to 3.6kg, such as sledgehammers, crow bars and axes, for up to 30 minutes! Its design makes attack weapons simply ’bounce off’ without causing injury, whilst also making penetration all but impossible. Some describe it as attacking a truck tyre with a spade; apart from limited surface damage it keeps on bouncing back into shape with no apparent effect on performance!

GuardShield IRG uses a combination of only two different products: glass and laminate, thus resulting in a structurally stable and unified material offering the very best in performance while maintaining minimum thickness. Traditional IR glass uses a combination of three different products; glass, laminate and polycarbonate, meaning a thicker overall panel to achieve the same performance.

In addition, GuardShield IRG will not scratch easily, yellow or distort, as other competing products can. GuardShield IRG is Australasia’s only all new Intruder Resistant Glass specially designed for extremely harsh conditions where there are higher levels of UV and humidity, pushing the longevity of the glass to the limits. GuardShield IRG is available in a
range of thicknesses from 11mm to 22mm depending on the attack resistance required, whether it’s five minutes or 60 minutes!

Testing

GuardShield IRG has been extensively tested and is manufactured to comply with a range of manual attacks defined in AS 3555.1-2003.

The standard AS 3555.1-2003 Level 2 covers an attack by two men using common hand tools such as sledgehammers, crow bars, chisels, prybars etc weighing up to 3.6kg and no more than 1.5m in length, and ratings are given in relation to the time taken to create an
opening of 620cm2 in a framed pane of glass. GuardShield IRG has also been tested for particular applications which are outside the range of hand tools specified under the AS3555.1 Standard, including rocks, steel nuts inside socks being swung against the glass,
washing machine parts, chair and table legs, broom handles and other items which may be available to prisoners.

For all maximum security projects, it is recommended before the project proceeds, that a test is performed under the AS3555.1 Standard to determine the exact performance with the IR glass type and frame proposed for the project. Glasshape have a facility available to perform such tests.
